Project

O’Hare International Airport Terminal 1 HVAC Renovation

Cotter is a part of the Power Construction Team providing construction management services for the upgrades of over 70 Air Handling Units (AHUs), including replacement of their terminal air units, HVAC controls, diffusers, and radiant panels in O’Hare’s Terminal 1 that supply and distribute all the air for Concourses B and C and United Airlines‘ operational areas. Upgrading these AHUs, terminal units, and HVAC controls will greatly improve energy efficiency to ensure the longevity of O’Hare’s systems.

This project requires work in active areas for passengers and staff, including dining and retail spaces. Strategic phasing that ensures a positive passenger experience, allows restaurants and shops to operate normally, and a robust communication strategy when closures are necessary is key to project success. Cotter project managers communicate with both United and the CDA to ensure that both tenant and owner goals are achieved.

Cotter is providing pre-construction services to determine long-lead items, ensuring correct materials are procured on time, and managing phasing plans.

“As we embark on these important upgrades to the Concourse B & C mechanical equipment, we are keenly aware of the responsibility that Power Construction has once again placed with Cotter Consulting to ensure that the Owner’s HVAC systems are improved without impacting the Tenant’s customer experience.”
