Project

Loyola University Arnold J. Damen, S.J. Student Center

Loyola’s Arnold J. Damen, S.J. Student Center is a 104,000 sf, LEED Silver-certified complex that promotes student collaboration and community at the University’s lake shore campus. The project completes the third phase of Loyola’s ‘Reimagine’ campaign, designed to transform student life on campus.

The $39 million student center includes an information area, grand staircase, meeting spaces, a large multipurpose room for 400 people, residential and food court dining services, departmental offices, student lounges, a 125-seat cinema, and a gaming space. Green features include low-flow water fixtures, a green roof with 50% coverage, natural ventilation and daylight harvesting, and Chicago’s first ‘earth duct,’ which passively pre-heats makeup air for the center’s kitchen appliances to create a 30% reduction in energy use.

Cotter served as the project manager, managing scope, schedule, budget and quality from programming through project close-out.
