Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the third largest school district in the country and has invested over $2 billion in new construction, facility upgrades, and renovation projects since 1998.
To oversee the success of such an extensive Capital Improvement Program (CIP), CPS hired a multi-firm team of building professionals for the capital improvement program management. As part of this team of experts, Cotter Consulting is serving as part of the Program Management Team, overseeing the entire capital program. Our team is collaborating on the management of numerous tasks including the biennial assessment of every school in the district, development of a five-year capital budget plan, and providing oversight of the strategic planning, design and construction for all capital renovation projects.
The district includes nearly 700 properties, with some buildings dating back to 1880, and has numerous renovation projects in various stages of design and construction at any given time. With projects typically designed, permitted, and built within one fiscal year, a tremendous amount of supervision and coordination is required to ensure each team member adheres to these tight schedules while performing their work accurately and thoroughly.
