It was exciting to be back on campus to work on another UIUC project as part of the construction management team for the Siebel Center for Design. Because of the building’s unique design, contractor coordination and planning were critical to the success of the project. Although the final phase of the project was completed during the Covid-19 Pandemic, we were able to successfully deliver the project despite the added complexities that were involved.
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign | Siebel Center for Design
The Siebel Center for Design at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is a 60,000 sf, two-story, student design center that was completed in 2021. This facility is one of the first ground-up cross-discipline design centers in the country. The building provides students with a landmark facility designed to support a collaborative approach to problem solving – one that combines design thinking, experimentation, and prototyping in an open, flexible and collaborative cross-disciplinary environment. Teamed with Clayco, Cotter provided project management services, including submittal review, RFI review, assistance with scheduling and overall coordination, and Commissioning management.

This space has been designed to accommodate teamwork. I wanted to make sure you can reinterpret the space as you need. The design principles for this building are about flexibility and agility so you can use this space in multiple ways.
