LEED: Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation Synagogue

Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation Synagogue

Evanston, Illinois

The Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation (JRC) designed an advanced new home for worship, religious instruction and gatherings. Cotter Consulting, Inc. was hired to provide project management and LEED Commissioning services for the three-story, 30,000 square foot project, performing design reviews, value engineering and preliminary scheduling.

Cotter's expertise with 'green' construction proved essential to the project - after receiving an energy-savings grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, the JRC pursued a LEED Platinum certification. Cotter worked with a LEED consultant throughout the certification process and the new synagogue became the first house of worship in the nation to achieve Platinum certification.

During construction, Cotter attended progress meetings, monitored construction quality and schedule, reviewed change orders and monthly pay requests, and facilitated resolution of construction problems.

The Synagogue has gone on to win the AIA Frank Lloyd Wright Citation of Merit Award and Chicago Building Congress 2009 Merit Award for New Construction- Suburbs.
