Elmhurst College's new, cutting-edge three-story dormitory boasts an energy sensitive LEED certified design. Cotter Consulting's commissioning team provided commissioning services for the innovative building.
Approximately 90,000 square feet, the building is supplied with steam and chilled water from the campus loop. Each of the 50 residential suites has a fan coil unit and ventilation to the corridors and the student lounges and public spaces are supplied by two air handling units. The building's exhaust is processed through residential toilet exhaust. The partial basement houses the building's heat exchanger, system pumps and a laundry facility.
Commissioned equipment and systems include:
- Two Air Handling systems including coils, filters, humidifiers, return fans, VFDs, and support equipment
- One heat exchanger
- Circulating pumps
- A 30% sampling of 50 fan coil units (15 units)
- Lighting controls
- Exhaust fans (up to 2 toilet exhaust fans, 1 kitchen exhaust fan, 1 laundry exhaust fan)
- Building automation controls associated with the above equipment
